How do I stop the earth from around the plants in my pond/waterfall clogging up the pump filter material? ?
My problem is that the pump sucks the water through a nozzle which l cover
with filter material, but within about 4 hours it becomes clogged up with
the earth from the plants, water lilies and Japanese bamboo.l plan to make
gravel basins at the top of the waterfall to act as a naturalbiological
filter, however, this wo not stop the pump sucking in earth. Waterfall
height 4ft. Pond height 15 inches , surface area 5-6sq. ft. Pump size 2400
liters per hour. Please no high tech solutions because l live in a tropical country with less materials available than in the U.S or Europe.l Thanks
are ur plants in pots in the water?.. then put gravel rocks of
some kind on the soil surface to hold down the soil from escaping into the
water.. there should be no soil in the pond that is NOT potted & held down
this way.. & may I say, that is a huge pump in a smallish pond!!!..650 gph
for what seems to be less than a 150 gallon pond?.is this just for the lift
to the waterfall?..you may need to come up with a 'container' to set the
pump in that can be wrapped with screening, rather than allowing the nozzle to be the water entrance..I once used the mesh plant pots wrapped in nylon as a 'pre-filter' for mine.. of course, if you can not get the mesh plant pots. yer sunk there.. but if you can get something holding down the soil in the potsk, I think you should do better with not having to clean it constantly..
You need to set your pump on a solid surface above the pond is
floor; A flat rock about 2'' thick should work nicely.
